Underwater Biology First Look
A simple start for new scuba divers: light shapes life, depth changes everything, and the best diver is often the quiet observer.
Light creates the underwater neighborhoods
Near the surface, sunlight supports algae, seagrass, corals and plankton — the base for much of the visible reef and coastal life divers love. As depth increases, light fades, plant life becomes limited and animals adapt with camouflage, migration or bioluminescence.
